In exactly two weeks, Guyana’s Men’s National Basketball team will be in action against the Washington DC Jammers along with the South Carolina and New York All-Star teams and according to appointed head coach Robert ‘Bobby’ Cadogan, the players are showing little or no interest in the Goodwill tournament. Speaking with Chronicle Sport yesterday, Cadogan said that apart from the city-based players, there has been little or no response from the players residing in Berbice and Linden.

The Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) has identified the names of possible players for its senior male national team for the upcoming International Series, but is not ready to release those names because of “fine-tuning” that has to be done. “We are fine-tuning it (the team) it’s not ready for release. It’s in the process of being ready” the GABF Senior Vice-President, Floyd Levi confirmed yesterday. He said that there are issues with the out-of-town players that have to be sorted out before the release. Appointed National Coach, Robert Cadogan had earlier told Kaieteur Sport that the Linden based players especially were “no-shows” at the practice sessions.

The fork has been dug into the soil and work has commenced on the first phase of the long-awaited Burnham Court rehabilitation project. According to president of the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA), Trevor Rose, speaking to Stabroek Sport via telephone last evening, rehabilitation work on Georgetown’s main outdoor basketball facility began last Wednesday and is centered on the facility’s lighting and the backboards for both rings.This is a part of the first stage of the rehabilitation project which also entails the extension of the bleachers for patrons, players’ benches and an officials’ box.
